I use JPEGCrops (http://ekot.dk/programmer/JPEGCrops/) to crop my images. However, after cropping, Cam2pc (freeware version) can no longer see the exif data: "no exif metadata found"

The exif-information is still visible in for example windows explorer and in XNView.

This looks to me a bug in JPEGCrops. After cropping some pictures, EXIFER is able to see the EXIF data, only it requires a lot of time compared with the original files. Other programs that I use do also have problems with those files.
