File renaming not happening at all!

Postby ve3cnu » Sun Apr 13, 2003 11:24 pm

:!:
I recently got a new pc. I've been using cam2pc for months but on this new computer, file renaming just doesnt seem to happen.

I'm sure I have the settings right. This is a Fuji S602 and a P4 PC running XP Professional.

Also, when I select automatically append a number to avoid duplicates, what is does instead is creat a file in the directory called cam2pc.count

Same here

I've used Cam2PC for a while and suddenly it stopped renaming. I just got the upgrade and it won't rename either. I have tried other variations of teh masks, I tried turning off rename and turning it back on, all I get, no matter what I do, is "PIC00001.JPG".

My current non-working mask is %P%{num:4}.%{ext}

All this is strange and I am going to take a look at this. However I am away from home for the moment so it may take some time. I'll keep you updated.

The best option to use with renaming is probably the global counter stuff. This will ensure that no two images will have the same name. Can you switch this option on and see if you still have the issues you both mention?

I tried this... I just tried it again.

What's odd is that even with it on, it won't number properly. If I have two loads of pictures I want in the same directory, it tries to overwrite the first load. I have to make two directories i.e. Birds01 and Birds02

For the record, I am using Win98 on a 400 mhz Pii with 512mb RAM, my camera is a Olympus 340L and I download the SmartMedia chips on a Lexar SmartMedia Reader.

Did you set the "next counter value" properly?

Renaming not happening

Well I think so. In fact, that seems to increment, it's up to 9 now. But it doesn't affect the numbering of the files at all, they all still start at PIC00001.JPG and count up from there.

Well, I just tried downloading a new copy of the install file, uninstalling my old version and reinstalling it.

No luck.

One thing seems odd, I get some events that cause an automatic revision of the file naming mask. If I change the renumbering option what ever I have in the mask changes to something like [DSHC]%{num:4}.%{ext}

That may be a little wrong, I can't duplicate the problem now. But I still have the failure to rename.

It won't rename for me either!

I have a similar problem. I am using a Digitrex DSC-2100 Camera and where I have had no problem in the past with renaming with version 3.01, I installed v3.12 and renaming no longer works. Whatever I try it comes out PICTxxx.xxx

I reinstalled v3.01 and it works fine, renaming it what I tell it.

I hope this is not a repeat...

I've played with this some more and cannot find any situation under which it does not fail to rename files.

I am sure you are having problems duplicating the problem.

Do you have older versions of the program somewhere so I can try those?

TIA

The problem happens everytime I use the new version. The extension of the files is .JPG or .AVI, depending on what I have taken, and always in upper case. I'm using Windows XP.

Same problem

Postby Doddsey » Thu Jun 05, 2003 2:16 am

I'm in the same boat here. I set the file renaming mask to '%Y%m%d%{num:3}.%e', and cam2pc seems to simply ignore it. The files come over, but they retain their P6040001.jpg name (as an example). The directory creation works fine.

I am downloading JPGs from my Olympus D-450 Zoom using a PNY card reader. I have WinXP Home Edition SP1.

This is one of the major features that I wanted in cam2pc, so I hope that you are able to find out what is going on. Feel free to pester me with questions!

Thanks,
Richard

maybe this doesnt help you all very much, but I have discovered that the best was to renam pics is to do that after the download...I have set my camera to a mode that keeps numbering even after having changed the flash card.

I then download the pics on the harddrive in separate folders named after the day the pictures were made (courtesy to the download wizard of cam2pc) and then I rearrange the pictures in cam2pc as I want them. Having done that I start renaming... works all the time and keeps me the maximum control of the whole thing
