Menu drawing performance on laptop? (version 4.3)

I've discovered a strange behavior in version 4.3 when I run it on my laptop (1,6Ghz, 768MB).
When the power is plugged in all is working as it should, but when I run on batteries it takes 'forever' to draw a menu (25s or more depending on the size of the menu). I can actually see line for line for the dropshadow behind the menu beeing drawn. (Top-down or left to right.)
It's the same behaviour for right-click menus as for the top menus.

I have tried to put the computer in high performance mode, so that it shouldn't be slower on batteries, but it didn't help. This is the only program that I have seen behaving like this.
(have not tried verison 4.4 yet)

Has anyone else seen this?

Hello,

did you try to disable the XP menu in the Misc section of the Options?

That option is checked, but dimmed out, so I can't change it on my computer. (running Xp pro sp2)
I have tried to disable it in the registry
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\nabocorp.\cam2pc\General\Windows XP Menus] but it makes no difference.
