Edit EXIF-Data

I have a question about editing EXIF-Data with cam2pc.
When I edit EXIF-Data (for example the EXIF Comment) and save the changes to an jpeg File - is there a new compression of the File or is it a loseless saving? I see that the date and time of the file changes!
