cam2pc & .jpe files

My camera a Minolta Dimage 7HI sends the image files to the pc with a .jpe extension. Since it is not listed as an extension in the cam2pc software the thumbnail does not show the image. However when I change the last letter of the extension to g (.jpg) the thumbnail shows as an image. Is there a way to download the files from the camera as a .jpg?
The reason I'm asking is that when I have many shots to download I would like to choose which to keep. TIA

I found that JPE files are produced by the camera when I embed a color profile in the image through the camera's settings. When the profile is not embedded it is a JPG file and shows up properly in cam2pc. Does anyone know whether an (embedded color profile) file will be supported in this program?
I would be satisfied if only the extension would be recognized.

embedded color profiles are supposed to be handled properly by cam2pc. I will add .jpe as a known extension for next release.
