I've found that if when I try to rotate a video I enter the filename as the same as the source (so that the original would be overwritten) an error occurs and the file is deleted. If it is not possible to overwrite the original file, would it be possible to put a check to ensure that the user doesn't try, as you end up losing the file completely.
